Joel Kammeyer, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. Dr. Kammeyer earned his undergraduate degree at Miami University. He completed medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, while concurrently earning a Master of Public Health degree at the Harvard School of Public Health. He pursued residency training in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University - MetroHealth Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He trained at the University of North Carolina Medical Center for fellowship training in Infectious Diseases. He is board certified in Infectious Diseases.
He serves as the Associate Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Toledo, where he also leads the Infectious Diseases Research Working Group. In 2020, he was named a recipient of the COVID-19 Healthcare Hero Award of the American College of Physicians - Ohio Chapter. He also serves on the Centers for Disease Control-Infectious Diseases Society of America COVID-19 On-Call Program.
He also serves as the Associate Director of Global Health Programs, Chair of the Global Health Committee, Chair of the Global Health Curriculum Working Group, and Director of the Global Health Pathway of Distinction at the University of Toledo.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is the President-Elect of the Infectious Diseases Society of Ohio. His research interests focus on post-acute care and transitions of care in Infectious Diseases.
