Laura Lodolo is a MD/MPH student at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA. She grew up in Sunnyvale, CA and attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and minors in Psychology and Child Development. During undergrad, she took a sociology course titled "Perspectives on the Criminal Justice System" which inspired her to volunteer with a non-profit called Restorative Partners where she was involved in yoga programming at the San Luis Obispo County Jail. In her last year of undergrad and throughout her gap year, Laura was a medical scribe at San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health working with psychiatrists and their team of case managers, therapists, and primary care clinicians. These experiences and interests in social justice and health disparities inspired her to apply to dual-degree MD/MPH programs. Laura moved to Boston, MA to start medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine. She was able to continue volunteering with incarcerated persons through teaching health education courses at South Bay House of Corrections in Boston through a student non-profit, Phoenix Project. Laura joined Dr. Alysse Wurcel's research team in January 2021 which studies the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases in people who use drugs and people who are incarcerated.
