I am an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Divisions of Infectious Diseases & Global Public Health and Geriatrics & Gerontology and participate in clinical and translational HIV research at the AntViral Research Center and through the San Diego Center For AIDS Research (CFAR). I also currently serve as the Co-Director of the CFAR Clinical Investigation Core and the Co-Investigator for North American AIDS Cohort COllabroation on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD) at UC San Diego. Through these roles, I foster the performance of clinical and translational HIV research by assisting with study design, study implementation, participant recruitment, the research regulatory processes, and data safety monitoring. On a broader level, I participate as an investigator within the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) on the Co-morbidities/Co-infection Transformative Science Group, the Underrepresented Populations committee and the HIV and Aging Working Group. I am also a co-chair of the Tideswell Special Interest Group at the American Geriatrics Society.
Currently, my research interests stem from the “bedside-to-bench”, in that I pursue research questions that directly respond to the day-to-day needs of the people I care for. Examples of my current research interests include novel approaches to managing chronic pain in older adults living with HIV and the development of novel approaches to caring for older adults living with HIV with a focus on loneliness and stigma.
