Dr. Wendy Bannister is a biostatistician at the Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections (CHIP) at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, with primary research interests in HIV/AIDS and COVID-19. She completed her PhD in Epidemiology at University College London in 2008 on “Factors associated with different responses to combination antiretroviral therapy in an observational cohort study of HIV-1 infected patients”, using data from EuroSIDA, a large pan-European prospective observational cohort study following adult people living with HIV (PLWH), which is coordinated by CHIP. This included the study of regional and temporal comparisons of virological and immunological response to antiretroviral therapy, HIV subtypes, and estimating prevalence of HIV drug resistance.
From 2010 to 2020, Dr. Bannister worked as a statistical consultant in oncology, supporting early and late-phase trials and clinical pharmacology within the pharmaceutical industry. She joined CHIP during 2020, working remotely from London, UK, to continue research and provide support on EuroSIDA and other cohort studies, and to support PERSIMUNE, Centre of Excellence for Personalised Medicine of Infectious Complications in Immune Deficiency. Recent research projects include studying the impact of weight gain on clinical outcomes in PLWH and the effect of COVID-19 on HIV care. She is also involved in analysing data from a national cohort study of effectiveness and safety of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in Denmark.
