Dr. Alison Castle is an infectious disease physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and collaborator at the Africa Health Research Institute in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Her research interests focus on the relationships between infectious diseases and chronic, noncommunicable diseases in rural KwaZulu-Natal, with a particular focus on tuberculosis, HIV, and diabetes. As a Fogarty global health fellow, she examined the diagnostic ability of anthropometric measures to detect persons at risk for diabetes within an HIV-endemic South African population to optimize the screening and diagnostic algorithms for diabetes within the region.
