I was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where I attended medical school at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. I then moved to Birmingham, AL, for my internal medicine residency at UAB and stayed at the same institution for my infectious diseases fellowship. I am currently pursuing dedicated training in infections affecting immunocompromised hosts. I am interested in curriculum development and assessment of educational interventions. My research interests also include bacterial sexually transmitted infections in pregnancy, co-infection with malaria, and novel diagnostic methods to reduce transmission in low- and middle-income countries.
