Peggy Douglas (she/her), RRT, MPH, CIC, Epidemiologist 3 at Washington State Department of Health, Office of Communicable Diseases, Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) division.
I have been a state-licensed respiratory therapist for 29 years, with vast experience in adult and pediatric intensive care, hyperbaric medicine, and pulmonary diagnostics. I am currently a per diem (very part time) Respiratory Therapist at the University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake in Seattle, WA. I was an infection preventionist at a large academic medical center in Iowa, as well as at a large Federally Qualified Health Center in Seattle and a comprehensive cancer center in Seattle. I am currently an HAI epidemiologist with the Washington State Department of Health. In addition to working with the COVID-19 response team, I have worked with the zoonotic epidemiology team on the highly pathogenic avian influenza response, seasonal influenza reporting, NHSN data validation with facilities statewide, and respiratory care-specific infection prevention guidance for LTACHs and vSNFs in Washington. Since 2020 I have served on the SHEA Research Committee and the APIC Practice Guidance Committee, and more recently on the APIN Emerging Pathogens Taskforce.
My areas of interest include global health, health equity, tribal public health and data sovereignity, health disparities and the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and disproportional impacts of antimocrobial resistance.
