Jenni Turunen, MSc, is a Doctoral Researcher in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu, Finland. She graduated as MSc from the University of Oulu, Faculty of Science with genetics as her major. Currently, Jenni works to complete her doctoral thesis at Research Unit of Clinical Medicine, with her main interest being the human gut microbiota. Her thesis and current work concerns the gut microbiota development in newborns and infants. She has worked to characterize the gut bacteriome at birth, represented by first-pass meconium, and the gut mycobiome at birth up to 18 months of life, as well as different factors contributing to changes in the gut bacteriome and mycobiome over time. Furthermore, she has studied the presence of bacterial extracellular vesicles in the first-pass meconium.
