Dr. Shinn-Jang Hwang is a well-trained clinician and researcher in the fields of Family Medicine and Gastro-Hepatology. He worked in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, Taipei Veterans General Hospital from 1984 to 1999, as an attending physician. He received Hepatology research fellowship training for one year in the Huntington Memorial Hospital, Los Angeles USA from 1992 to 1993. He was then moved to the field of family medicine since 1999. He was the Chief of the Department of Family Medicine, Taipei Veterans General Hospital from 2000 to 2015. He served as Superintendent of the Taipei Yang Ming City Hospital for 15 months in 2003-2004. He was served as Vice Superintendent of the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, the biggest medical center in Taipei City, from 2015 to Jan. 2022, when he retired as a government employee. Currently, he is the president of the Taiwan Association of Family Medicine. Also, the Superintendent of the En Chu Kong Hospital, New Taipei City, Taiwan.
He has actively participated in clinical researches in his medical career. He has participated in 155 clinical studies, and conducted many clinical trials both domestic and multi-nation, multi-center clinical trials, especially vaccine clinical trials including RSV, SARS-CoV-2, Herpes Zoster, Influenza, H5N1 and H7N9 Flu, as a principle investigator. He has published 390 scientific papers in the field of Gastro-Hepatology, Family Medicine, Community Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Hospice Palliative care, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Big data analyses, Scientometrics and vaccine/drug clinical trials. He is now a Professor in Family Medicine, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University School of Medicine, Taipei, Taiwan, teaching family medicine and community medicine.
