Sarah K. Parker, MD, is Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at University of Colorado School of Medicine/Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Parker is IDWeek Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society IDWeek Vice Chair-elect, and Chair of SHEA/IDWeek’s Best Practices for Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs Workshop. Dr. Parker spearheaded “Handshake Stewardship”, now considered a best practice by The Joint Commission and the CDC. She and her team have published extensively on Handshake Stewardship efficacy, sustainability, and cost savings as well as clinical success related to stewardship efforts in particular target areas. Under the stewardship umbrella, Dr. Parker mentors staff and faculty in areas ranging from integrating infection control into Stewardship rounds to pharmacokinetics of antibacterials in pediatric patients. Her team now has a contract with the Colorado Department of Health and Environment to improve stewardship statewide.
As an active clinician, Dr. Parker has repeatedly been recognized as a “Best Doctor” and as a “Provider of the Month”. Her team proudly received the “Excellence in Quality and Patient Safety Award” in 2015. The antimicrobial stewardship rotation is popular with pharmacy and pediatric residents.
In addition to time with her family, Dr. Parker enjoys spending time travelling, cooking and fly fishing.
