Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice
Long Island University
Brooklyn, New York, United States
Jaclyn Cusumano is an infectious diseases pharmacist researcher at Long Island University and currently practices as an infectious diseases pharmacist at Mount Sinai Queens Hospital. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from the University of Rhode Island, where she first developed an interest in multidrug resistant bacteria. She went on to complete a clinical pharmacy residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. After residency, Dr. Cusumano began working as an infectious diseases pharmacist at a community hospital in Massachusetts where she assisted in developing their first antimicrobial stewardship program. While she found her work at the community hospital extremely rewarding, Dr. Cusumano wanted to be able to advance infectious diseases treatments on a greater scale. Dr. Cusumano then went on to complete a post-doctoral infectious diseases pharmacotherapy research fellowship at the Providence VA Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island, where she trained in both in vitro and clinical outcomes research. After completion of her fellowship, Dr. Cusumano joined Long Island University as an assistant professor and currently runs a research lab at the Brooklyn campus. Dr. Cusumano's research focuses on discovery of ideal antimicrobial regimens for multidrug resistant bacteria and identification of optimal pharmacodynamic targets. Since joining LIU, she has received a competitive New Investigator Award through the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy to research combination therapy for Enterococcus faecalis infective endocarditis, which has inspired this presented work.
