Currently, I am the Coordinator of the Pneumonia Research Line at Applied Research in Respiratory Infections and Clinical Patients group - IDIBAPS-Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, and serve as an Associate Professor at Medicine School, University of Barcelona. I have authored of 169 scientific articles (5587 citations in total; H-index: 44), eight book chapters, and one book. .My major achievements can be summarized by five main interconnected goals on the management of pneumonia: 1) Studying the immunologic profile of patients with pneumonia; 2) Describing the microbiologic features of pneumonia in different settings, as well as the risk factors associated with antibiotic-resistant pathogens; 3) Demonstrating that patients with HIV and Legionella or pneumococcal pneumonia should receive the same type of management care as individuals without HIV. 4) Investigating pneumonia and sepsis in very old patients. 5) Raising awareness of pneumonia on a global scale in collaboration with various national and international stakeholders through the first Worldwide Pneumonia Awareness Campaign – Pneumolight.
