Dr. Newton E. Kendig is an infectious disease physician who served much of his professional career as Medical Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons from 1999 through 2015. In 2017, Dr. Kendig was appointed Clinical Professor of Medicine at George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences (GW) to spearhead a criminal justice health program for the university. His initiatives include integration of justice-health care into the GW medical school curriculum, launching the nation’s first graduate degree program in Correctional Health Care Administration, and providing expert technical assistance to health care providers and administrators in U.S. jails and prison.
