Ana Islam, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrine Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in treating disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.
Dr. Islam earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the prestigious Hudson Penn award for excellence in surgery. She completed her residency in general surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital, followed by a research fellowship at the hospital’s J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center. She received further specialization in endocrine surgery through a fellowship at UT Southwestern. She also holds a B.A. in economics from Stanford University.
Board-certified in general surgery, Dr. Islam joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019.
Dr. Islam's research has focused on recurrent kidney stones after successful parathyroidectomy, minimally-invasive adrenalectomy, excessive weight gain after pancreas transplantation, and persistence of de novo donor-specific antibodies after lung transplantation. She is also passionate about teaching and has received numerous distinctions for instructing medical students and residents.
She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American College of Surgeons, and the Association of Women Surgeons.
