Dr. Cocoros is a Research Scientist in the Department of Population Medicine at the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. She manages the Research Scientists within the Department's Therapeutics Research and Infectious Disease Epidemiology (TIDE) group and is the Lead Epidemiologist for the Sentinel Operations Center, housed within the Department, as part of the U.S. FDA's Sentinel System. Dr. Cocoros is also the portfolio lead for ESP, an EHR-based distributed data network for state-level infectious disease reporting and chronic disease surveillance. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the Boston University School of Public Health.
Dr. Cocoros has a background in infectious disease epidemiology, public health surveillance, and novel uses of electronic health data for research and surveillance. She has expertise in influenza epidemiology and surveillance and randomized pragmatic trials embedded in health plans. She is actively working on numerous analyses related to COVID-19.
Prior to DPM, she spent nearly eight years in the Bureau of Infectious Disease at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, most recently as the Director of Research and Evaluation. Dr. Cocoros received a doctorate in epidemiology from the Boston University School of Public Health where her research focused on influenza epidemiology and the long-term health effects of early life infections. She also has a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in epidemiology from Boston University School of Public Health and a Bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College.
