Amalia M. Issa, PhD, MPH, FISPE, an internationally renowned scientist, is the founding Director of Personalized Medicine and Targeted TherapeuticsTM, a center she founded in 2001. Dr. Issa was among the very first scientists to conduct research and publish on translational research related to pharmacogenomics and precision medicine, and how they will be translated and integrated into health care delivery and health systems. Her research is positioned at the nexus of epidemiology/health services research and molecular science, and she leads an interdisciplinary team of scientists who are actively engaged in research aimed at the effective translation of the science of pharmacogenomics and precision medicine from the laboratory bench to the bedside and to the community and policy. She is currently Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and of Health Policy at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Dr. Issa has published numerous papers, has served or is serving as the principal investigator on a number of funded projects, and is a reviewer for several scientific journals and granting agencies. Dr. Issa serves on editorial boards and in leadership positions in several professional associations, and has received many awards and honors for her work. A native of Montreal, Canada, she holds degrees from McGill University (Ph.D), the UCLA School of Public Health (MPH), and completed fellowship training at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Issa has been co-leading the Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine for Pharmacoepidemiologists course for ISPE for over a decade. She is passionate about conducting translational precision medicine research and working to make the revolutionary routine.
