Rachel Williams is the Head of Opportunistic, Infectious Disease, and Respiratory Epidemiology at GSK. She sits on the Epidemiology Leadership Team and manages a large group of epidemiologists that support assets across the pipeline.
Rachel completed her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a focus on Health Care Epidemiology and a minor in Health Policy. She remains involved in academics as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Epidemiology at UNC-Chapel Hill where she has served on PhD and MSPH committees and hired Research Assistants to work at GSK.
Rachel has experience supporting assets across the R&D pipeline from early Research through Phase IV, and for safety, regulatory and clinical needs. She also has experience in a breadth of disease areas including, but not limited to, immunology, hepatology, respiratory, infectious disease, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, metabolic, and women’s health.
Rachel has an interest in digital innovation in real world data and is a member of the Digital Special Interest Group in the International Pharmacoepidemiology Society (ISPE). She was the epidemiologist for the PARADE study, the first pharma company to use the Apple Research Kit and iPhone for a study in 2015. She is also the Scientific Lead for the weaRAble PRO study, using an apple watch and iPhone to collect data on rheumatoid arthritis patients.
On a personal note, Rachel has two boys, 19 and 16 years old, and spends her spare time at Colgate University Track & Field meets and teaching her younger son to drive.
