Alex is a Senior Director in Global Epidemiology at AbbVie based in Dublin, Ireland. Alex leads a global team of epidemiologists that is developing solutions for real-world data and evidence needs. Alex’s team focuses on data acquisition and partnerships for real-world evidence in support of regulatory and safety strategy, as well as bringing forward tools to enable efficient analytic execution and insights sharing of internal data studies.
Before joining AbbVie in 2019, Alex worked at Amgen for 15 years as director of the real-world evidence platform and forecasting in the Center for Observational Research. Before Amgen, Alex worked as a research scientist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after completing his PhD from the University of Toronto, Canada in cancer genetic epidemiology (focused on ethnic differences in breast and ovarian cancer). Alex also worked as a genetic counsellor for Cancer Care Ontario in Toronto. He holds his Master of Science degree in genetic counselling from the University of Manchester, UK, and Bachelor of Science in molecular biology and genetics from the University of Toronto. Alex grew up in Brazil and Canada and is fluent in Portuguese and German.
