I am a consultant physician, MD PhD and associate professor of clinical epidemiology at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Aarhus University & Aarhus University Hospital. I received my medical degree at Aarhus University 1998 and also defended my PhD on diabetes and infections here in 2004. Currently I coordinate the metabolic disease epidemiology research program at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Aarhus University. I have quite some experience with research project management, including numerous collaboration projects with partners in the pharmaceutical industry. I am former vice president of the Danish Epidemiological Society, and advisor for the Danish Ministry of Health and Danish Medicines Agency on the use of registry data. My research activities are focused on research based on clinical databases and administrative registries. My primary fields of interest are pharmacoepidemiology and metabolic epidemiology, including complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity and other metabolic diseases, and the interactions between chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, or COPD and severe infections (pneumonia, sepsis, bacteremia, COVID-19 and others) in health outcomes. I have published approximately 250 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. Please connect with me at https://www.linkedin.com/in/reimar-w-thomsen or look for dr_rwt on Twitter!
