Dr. Camelo Castillo is Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research at the School of Pharmacy, University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). Dr. Camelo Castillo is a medical doctor with a MSc degree in physiology, and a PhD in epidemiology. Overall the goal of her research is to inform and improve clinical and policy decision making by providing evidence of benefits or harm of interventions used in real world settings in vulnerable populations. She brings a unique perspective into this work, by integrating the patient perspective into epidemiology and health services research. Her research agenda focuses on two main topics: 1) improving methods to assess effectiveness of treatments in the context of multimorbidity, 2) developing evidence on the use of digital technologies in pharmacoepidemiology research, 3) implementing patient-centered methods to address health disparities in minority communities.
