Nicole Stahlmann, MN, RN, SANE-A, AFN-BC, FNE-A serves as a Forensic Nurse Specialist for the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). Nicole became a registered nurse in 2010 and has dedicated her career to patients affected by violence, achieving Board certification as a SANE-A in 2015 followed by her Advanced Forensic Nurse Board Certification (AFN-BC) in 2016. Nicole was a contributing author for the text IAFN Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Certification: A Review for the SANE-A and SANE-P Exams (2021), Examining the implementation of the National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations (2022) in the Journal of Forensic Nursing and the Urban Institute’s Paying for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Exams (2022). Nicole’s primary focus at IAFN is providing education and technical assistance through OVW funding related to sexual assault exam payment, the National Protocols (pediatric and adult), the National SAFE training Standards, and to SANE programs funded through the OVC. Nicole continues to practice clinically serving patients across the lifespan affected by violence.
