Alan "Tony" Amberg is a 2nd generation psychiatric nurse, currently a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner based in Chicago and owner of Alan Tony Amberg PLLC (licensed in Illinois and Florida). He previously served as the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Liaison, Northwestern Memorial Hospital - Chicago's leading Academic Medical Center where he was a popular speaker at many conferences and events. He provided nursing grand rounds at Northwestern Memorial and Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in topics as diverse as medications, substance use, management of agitation and suicidal ideation. Amberg proved hands- on training and consultation for APRNs/PAs, RNs and Techs across a wide variety of subject matter. He was the Subject matter expert on introduction of revised Delirium screening across the hospital and wrote same-day surgery suicide assessment protocol. During the pancdem lockdown, provided over 300 stress reduction groups to staff hospital-wide (>2800 staff contacts). Media appearances on behalf of Northwestern on NBC, NPR and Bloomberg, local TV and print. He has been a nursing professor, clinical instructor, precepted 27 NP students and for 5 years had a unique training partnership with Spiritual Care to train Chaplain residents in psychiatry. He was named a 2020 "Hero for Better" and received a 2021 "Spirtual Partner in Care" award. Prior to that Amberg was the sole Consult Psychiatric Provider Rush Oak Park Hospital (2014-2015): provided consult services to 135 bed community hospital of Rush University Medical Center. He has also done community outpatient mental health. He was a former President of the Illinois Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the co-section chief advisor and contributor for the Mental Health website PsychU.org (2019-2021). He is currently features on NP Psych Navigator. He is also active in the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing.
