Angelita Olowu serves as a Forensic Nursing Specialist with the International Association of Forensic Nurses with 14 years nursing experience. She holds dual certifications as a SANE-A and a SANE-P. She has a background in Emergency and Trauma Nursing. In her current role, Angelita provides technical assistance on various topics related to the care of patients that have experienced sexual violence including the recommendations within both of the National Adolescent/ Adult and Pediatric Sexual SAFE Protocols. She is the Project Coordinator responsible for oversight of the development of the US Department of Justice (US DOJ), Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), National Protocol for Intimate Partner Violence Medical Forensic Exams. Angelita teaches IAFN Adolescent/ Adult and Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner didactic and clinical courses, provides education statewide and nationally, and has provided Indian Health Service trainings and courses. Additionally, she was the primary author and Project Coordinator for the DOJ OVW national online training Caring for the Sexually Assaulted Patient When There is No SANE in Sight: A training for ALL Healthcare Providers. In her previous role as a fulltime forensic nurse in Cleveland Ohio, Angelita provided education and leadership to a forensic nursing staff. Additionally, she provided education and guidance around identifying and providing care to the forensic patient population to other healthcare providers and community partners.Angelita has served as a member of a hospital based Domestic Violence Committee, a hospital-based Child Protection Team, the Civil Rights Task Force, Human Trafficking Taskforce for the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking, the Canopy Child Advocacy Center Advisory Committee and Medical Committee, Co-chair on the Cuyahoga County SART College Campus Subcommittee, the Medical Advisory Board Council for the Midwest Regional Child Advocacy Center, and the Executive Committee for Cuyahoga County Sexual Assault Response Team. She currently chairs the Integrating Culture Committee for the Canopy Child Advocacy Center.
