L. Kathleen Sekula, PhD, PMHCNS, FAAN is a Professor of Nursing at Duquesne University School of Nursing. Dr. Sekula developed one of the first Masters of Science Programs offering a specialty in Forensic Nursing and has had multiple federal grants related to forensic nursing education and SANE training. Dr. Sekula currently serves as Project Director for Duquesne’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (ANE-SANE) Training Grant. She is active in the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), Academy of Forensic Nursing (AFN), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and various other nursing organizations. She has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals in the field of nursing, primarily in forensic and mental health nursing. Dr. Sekula is an advanced practice Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse therapist and treats many patients who are survivors of violence/sexual assault.
