Undergraduate Adjunct Professor and Hospital Site Manager
Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Saskatchewan Health Authority, Canada
I am a registered psychiatric nurse with a Master of Nursing (Clinical Nurse Specialist) from the University of Regina. I have 16 years of nursing experience working with some of Saskatchewan's most vulnerable populations. A significant portion of this time was spent working in and with Indigenous communities supporting programs addressing mental health, addictions, infectious disease, and sexual/reproductive health. Currently, I hold a position as a faculty member in the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and a casual position in Saskatchewan Health Authority as a Site Manager working between both acute care hospitals in Regina.
As a registered psychiatric nurse who worked in various clinical settings, ranging from rural emergency rooms and acute care to infectious disease and mental health care, this experience provides me with the perspective to speak to many healthcare challenges. Working in and with Indigenous communities has shaped my perspective and guided how I care for patients and educate students. My greatest teachers have been the clients I have been privileged to work with and care for. For this reason, my approach to care and teaching honors a holistic and diverse mindset rooted in mutual respect, engagement, and integrity.
My research interests include patient narratives of their healthcare experiences and needs related to addictions and mental health. Additionally, I am an avid supporter of harm reduction and would like to focus on how this approach can be operationalized in the acute care setting.
