Adjunct Professor and Hospital Site Manager
Saskpolytech and Saskhealth Authority, Canada
I am a Registered Nurse (BScN) graduating from the University of Saskatchewan as well as completed a Master of Science in Forensic Nursing from Fitchburg State in 2016. I began my nursing career as an LPN for two years while completing my BScN as a RN. I have 16 years of nursing experience, clinically my background is Emergency Medicine (13 years) but I have also held positions as a SANE nurse, in adolescent psychiatry and at the Secure Youth Detox Center (SYDC). Academically I have been teaching the undergraduate nursing program for 10 years in various roles, such as clinical instructor and a course coordinator covering all 4 years of the program. My current nursing positions are Faculty with the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing program as well as an out of scope site Manager at both acute care hospitals in Regina,SK.
Throughout my career I have been drawn to vulnerable populations and have found myself in roles to advocate for them. Working at the SYDC I learnt about the importance of holistic care, treating the entire family not just the patient. This has forever altered my approach in my nursing practice as with my nursing students. Trauma informed care and being culturally aware of the history our indigenous peoples have experienced has also led me to a more patient centered approach. I am grateful to live and work in treaty 4 territory, Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation. I live here with my husband Kevin, two young daughters, two dogs and a wild cat.
