Nancy Downing is an Associate Professor in the Center of Excellence for Forensic Nursing at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, where she teaches and conducts research. She has been a forensic nurse for 18 years providing care across the lifespan for persons impacted by interpersonal violence, including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, child maltreatment, and elder maltreatment. She earned her PhD from the University of Iowa in 2010. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship was a member of the faculty at the University of Iowa College of Nursing before joining the Texas A&M School of Nursing in 2016 to help start the MSN Forensic Nursing Program. Her research focuses on intersections between violence, trauma, substance use, and health-related outcomes. She is the Principal Investigator of an Office for Victims of Crime grant to develop, implement, and evaluate a statewide telehealth sexual assault nurse examiner program, the Texas Teleforensic Remote Assistance Center (Tex-TRAC). She is Past-President of IAFN for 2022, Vice Chair of the NIST OSAC Forensic Nursing Subcommittee, and a member of the Texas Forensic Science Commission.
