Since 2016 Patrick Ridenhour has served as Chief of Police in the City of Danbury, Connecticut. He previously served as Chief of Police in the Town of Stratford, Connecticut from 2011 – 2016 and as Deputy Chief from 2009-2011. Chief Ridenhour began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer in 1988 in the City of Waterbury, Connecticut. There he rose through the ranks, retiring in 2008 as Chief of the Uniform Bureau, where he served as the commanding officer of the Patrol, Communications, and Community Services Divisions.
Chief Ridenhour is a member of IACP and currently serves on the National Consortium on Preventing Law Enforcement Suicide. His late father was a police officer and he currently has a son serving as a police officer. As such, Chief Ridenhour has a deep understanding of, and strong commitment to the law enforcement profession and to ensure the health and wellness of police officers from hire to to retirement.
Chief Ridenhour holds a Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia, a Bachelor’s Degree from Charter Oak State College in New Britain, CT and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS), both in Quantico, VA. Chief Ridenhour is the immediate past president of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association and an Executive Board member of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).
