Matt joined the Australian Federal Police (AFP) 1995 and initially worked in general duties policing. Over a 23-year career with the AFP Matt rose to the rank of Commander and deployed overseas.
In late 2018, Matt joined the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) as the Executive Director Intelligence Operations. In this role, he was responsible for leading all international and domestic intelligence operations for the ACIC and was appointed as the Senior Responsible Officer for the build of the Agency’s flagship National Criminal Intelligence System (NCIS). In 2020, he also assumed direct oversight of the ACIC’s coercive powers, Technical and Human Intelligence capability and Strategic Intelligence capability.
In 2021, Matt was appointed to Deputy CEO Intelligence at the ACIC where he oversees the agency’s entire operational strategy efforts
