Sergeant
Cleveland Division of Police, United States
My name is Sergeant Melissa Dawson, Cleveland police Department (8/1999). I worked basic patrol for 8 years. I have been an instructor for the police academy and a local community college since 2017. In 2013 I was placed in charge of the Employee Assistance Unit (EAU). I am responsible for monitoring the overall effectiveness of the programs that EAU has while continuing to develop new programs. In EAU we provide confidential peer counseling to officers and make referrals to outside resources when needed. We develop relationships with the community in order to provide better mental health, finical or other services to our officers. EAU offers Equine therapy, yoga and mindfulness programs, return to duty program, officer intervention program, cultural innovation team project, 12 step AA style meetings, post traumatic protocol and vicarious trauma group training. The Military Liaison, Bluecoats Liaison and Chaplaincy program run under my command as well.
I am looking forward to presenting our victims trauma training at IACP
