Since 2014 Michael J. Phibbs has been the Chief of the Auraria Campus Police Department. The Auraria Campus is the largest in the State of Colorado, with a population of 44,000 students, staff, and faculty.
Phibbs has 30 years of law enforcement experience. He has served as the Chief of Police for Elizabeth, Colorado, and was with the Summit County, Colorado Sherriff’s Office for ten years, last serving as Division Commander/Undersheriff.
Phibbs earned his master’s degree in Criminal Justice Executive Leadership from the University of Colorado Denver. He received his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Colorado Boulder. Phibbs is a graduate of the 241st session of the FBI National Academy.
Phibbs served as a gubernatorial appointee to the Colorado Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) board for eight years. Phibbs also serves as the Legislative Chair for the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police.
