Commanding Officer West Valley Detective Division
Los Angeles Police Department
Lieutenant Julie Rodriguez joined the LAPD in 1996, working as a patrol officer, bicycle officer, field training officer, and undercover vice officer. She was promoted to Detective and worked in the elite Robbery-Homicide Division Rape Special Section handling high-profile sexual assault and child molestation cases. In 2005 she was promoted to Sergeant and in 2012 promoted to Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, she was a watch commander, Officer-in-Charge of a Gang Impact Team, adjutant to the Chief of Staff, and is currently the Commanding Officer of West Valley Detectives. Through her own failing forward journey, she discovered a passion for helping others promote. During COVID-19, she helped employees navigate the difficult exam and interview process for Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant and helped over 2,100 employees all via Zoom. Julie has a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and will be completing her master’s degree from the University of San Diego in May. She is a West Point Leadership graduate, holds certification in Exercising Leadership from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 280.
