Dr. Christopher S. Koper is a Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University and the Principal Fellow of Mason’s Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy. Prior to working at George Mason, he held research positions at several non-profit think tanks and universities including the Police Foundation and the Police Executive Research Forum. Much of Dr. Koper’s research focuses on place-based crime control strategies, police technology, and the institutionalization of evidence-based practices. His work on patrolling crime hot spots (often referred to as the “Koper curve” principle) is used by police agencies around the world, and he is the co-developer of the Evidence-Based Policing Matrix tool for policy translation of research on police crime control strategies. Dr. Koper has also conducted extensive research on firearms policy, illegal firearms markets, and firearms-focused policing strategies. Dr. Koper is a fellow of the Academy of Experimental Criminology, the co-editor of Criminology & Public Policy, and co-author of the award-winning book, Evidence-Based Policing: Translating Research into Practice.
