Russ Porter started his career as a police officer and a deputy sheriff. After 32 years he culminated his state and local law enforcement career at the rank of Director at the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Mr. Porter’s national leadership helped transform the post-9/11 domestic security, information sharing, and intelligence landscape. He’s the recipient of the IACP Civil Rights Award for ethical practice of the intelligence function; and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Fusion Center Association. In June 2010 Mr. Porter was appointed to the Senior National Intelligence Service by the Director of National Intelligence, a position he continues to hold. Mr. Porter possesses a Master of Public Administration degree; and has graduated from the FBI National Academy, the FBI’s National Executive Institute, and the ODNI’s “Leading the Intelligence Community” course. Upon nomination of the DNI, Mr. Porter also served as a 2018-2019 Intelligence Fellow at the Belfer Center, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
