EDUCATION
He holds a BS degree, Administration of Justice, University of Wyoming and a MPA from Georgia College and State University. He is an adjunct professor for several colleges.
EXPERIENCES
Chief Louis M. Dekmar’s 44-year career ranges from police officer, detective, division commander, and Chief of Police, since 1991. He is a miltiary veteran.
Dekmar is Past-President of IACP, Past President and Chair of CALEA, and Past-President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. He is a former Council Member for the Georgia Peace Officer’s Standards and Council, and a past member of the Georgia Board of Public Safety, providing oversight for Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Georgia Public Safety Training Center; and served as a Federal Monitor for the USDOJ. He addressed the United Nations Police on international law enforcement standards.
Chief Dekmar received an Honorary Doctorate Degrees from Central Police University, Taipei, Taiwan, and LaGrange College, LaGrange, Georgia; Georgia Governor’s Award for Life-Time Achievement and Contribution to the Law Enforcement Profession; and the Police Valor Medal for Bravery.
