Captain Wendell Nicholson is a native of Wichita and a 28-year veteran of the Wichita Police Department who began his career in 1993.
In 1997, Wendell was promoted to the rank of Detective and worked in several investigative sections . In April of 2016, Wendell was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In April of 2017 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant . Wendell was promoted to the rank of Captain in April of 2018 and has served as the Bureau commander for South and East patrol. He currently is the commander of the department’s Special Operations bureau which includes traffic and fatal accident follow up investigations.
Wendell has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice from Wichita State University and has a Master’s in Criminal Justice from Wichita State. Wendell also graduated from the Northwestern University Center of Public Safety, School of police staff and Command #427 in 2017.
Wendell is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and was the founding member of the Kansas chapter of NOBLE (National organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives) and he is an active member of the Wichita branch of the NAACP.
