Sam Shurley is a 28 year Texas Law Enforcement veteran, currently the Special Operations Commander for the Austin Police Department. During his tenure, he has worked assignments in patrol and Metro Tactical as an Officer and Sergeant, SWAT reserve as an Officer and Detective, Gang Suppression/FBI Task Force as a Detective, Intelligence/Real Time Crime Center as a Lieutenant, and his current assignment as the Commanding Officer over SWAT, EOD, Air Support, K9, Lake Patrol, Dive Team, Unmanned Systems, and Hostage Negotiators.
Sam has a Bachelor's Degree and Masters Degree in Criminal Justice, and is working towards his PhD in Organizational Leadership.
Sam has worked at the national level in training for the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training program, the Valor for Blue Officer Safety and Resiliency program, the Academy of Counter Terrorism Education at the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, and is a member of the Education and Training Committee for the International Association of Chief's of Police
Sam and his Wife, Jamie are living the dream of empty nesters in Central Texas, and enjoy travelling in their spare time.
