Nils Rosenbaum, MD has worked with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) since 2007. In 2016, he became the Director for the Behavioral Sciences Department. His goal is to bring the best possible care and support to APD officers and their families. He continues his work with the Crisis Intervention Unit, collaborating with detectives to give training and conducting in-field home visits of people living with mental illness.
Dr. Rosenbaum is also a volunteer attending physician with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He works closely with advocates and peers, has won NAMI New Mexico’s outstanding psychiatrist award, and has published in the American Journal of Psychiatry on the need for collaboration between law enforcement and psychiatry. In 2019 he helped create the Selfcare Interactive Online Network (SCION). SCION is a peer support program that utilizes storytelling as a method for increasing resiliency and decreasing stigma around mental health.
