Tom McClain was born into a dysfunctional family and grew up on the Oregon coast during the turbulent 70's. He was assigned his first juvenile officer when he was 12. After a life-changing event in 1985, he sensed the call of God to pursue policing.
He landed his first patrol position with the Coquille, OR PD discovering he was well suited for the work. After several years at the CPD, Tom loaded up his family into their 1979 Chevy Malibu station wagon (with simulated woodgrain) and headed to Springfield, MO where he would enroll as a freshman at Baptist Bible College. He landed a patrol position with the Willard, MO Police Department in May of 1993 then 3 months later, he was appointed as chief of police. He graduated BBC in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree then the FBI National Academy in 2001. Tom started an annual Willard Charity Boxing event at the Willard High School in 2003. He implemented Willard PAL Boxing (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) in 2009 and has since added Camp Character, a youth oriented outdoor activities area where kids are strengthened and advanced by participating in archery, hiking, ziplining and outdoor cooking. Tom also pastors a small rural church in the Willard, MO area.
