The Calgary Police Service in Alberta, Canada, employs 2,200 sworn members. Each year, applications are received from 600 to1,000 individuals seeking employment as a police officer. After screening for academic abilities, physical fitness, and misconduct, candidates participate in psychological, polygraph, and background testing. The presentation discusses the pool of applicants who participated in psychological testing in 2020 and 2021, with information regarding demographics and the results of psychological testing. Further, information is provided regarding which candidates moved forward in the selection process and who was offered employment. Results from psychological testing supported 85 percent of candidates, but barely half of these were hired. Differences between those tested and those hired are discussed.
