TEMS is defined as medical support of SWAT. Law enforcement medicine is a new concept that includes but expands well beyond the tactical setting to address 1) preventable causes of law enforcement death, 2) medical issues encountered in the unique law enforcement setting, 3) officer wellness, and 4) medical issues at the officer-general public interface. Law enforcement medicine entails direct medical response, evidence-based training, law enforcement leadership advisement, promotion, and interpretation of research. Law enforcement medicine’s mission is to prevent unnecessary injury or death and promote officer wellness for all law enforcement officers.
