Excited delirium has been a recognized syndrome since the 1800s, but there are still disagreements on how to define the syndrome and the best strategies to employ when trying to mitigate the effects. This interactive lecture will review the science and help define the behavioral characteristics of the syndrome. Response requires close coordination of police with medical personnel and specific strategies to minimize risk to the affected person and responding personnel. Best practices will be discussed for law enforcement and medical personnel.
