Qakbot is a banking trojan malware which is used to harvest users’ login passwords and credentials so that the attacker can log into the users accounts and steal funds. This presentation will walk through a real case study where a Portland, Oregon, business was a victim, which created significant financial distress. The presenter will walk through the investigation in a high-level, non-technical approach that will illustrate the complex nature of these types of cyber attacks and demonstrate investigative methodologies. This presentation will highlight the successes made from the training and assistance received from the U.S. Secret Service National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI), as well as the importance of building strong partnerships with local and federal partners to combat cyber crime.
