The presentation shall provide options for the future. It will utilize a multi-dimensional approach of treatment and referrals rather than arrest. The unique approach addresses the challenges a family experiences while living with a substance use disorder member. Focal points include addressing the situation as a disease and public health issue, not as a crime; maintaining a real-time database of overdoses through local communities; along with re-entering the individual to the community clean and sober. The four pillars of prevention, education, treatment, and recovery (re-entry) will result in success for all involved. The challenges of the COVID-19 era and safe prescribing, dispensing, and disposing of unused pharmaceuticals shall be addressed.
