Public Information Officer Boulder Police Boulder, Colorado, United States
The City of Boulder, Colorado, lost some of its magic on March 22, 2021, but it also came together like never before in the face of tragedy. On that day, a man walked into a small town grocery store and murdered 10 people, including the first police officer on scene. At the time, the Boulder Police Department was still getting to know its new police chief and its new public information officer (PIO). The last time it had lost an officer was nearly 30 years earlier.
This presentation will talk about the multiple communication teams used to share information with the world, including assigning PIOs to each victim’s family, how traditional media and social media was managed, and how an agency moves forward.
