Raman and FTIR are common tools used by modern hazamt teams. Many incidents the unidentified material is in the units library. Sometimes it may be a mixture and not be found. Or in some cases the different devices give conflicting responses. What can the responder do while waiting for the ReachBack service to get back in touch with you?
Learning Objectives:
The responder will identify the application, limitation, and use of Raman/FTIR equipment used in emergency response
The responder shall be able to use spectral landmarks to confirm the classification or identification of the unidentified material
Given spectra examples of hazardous materials incidents and using Raman/FTIR equipment, presumptively identify or classify unknown materials involved or verify the identity of the hazardous materials
