This session will review basic chemistry concepts, chemical families, chemical and physical properties, and the periodic table of elements. Attendees will have the opportunity to apply the information covered to identify hazards and develop a risk based response for a release. This session will be helpful to new HAZMAT responders and will serve as a refresher for experienced HAZMAT responders.
Learning Objectives:
The participant will be able to define terms used to identify chemical and physical properties of an element or compound.
The participant will be able to explain how the chemical and physical properties will influence a risk based response.
The participant will be able to determine the level of risk posed by a chemical to a responder during a release.
