Climate Program Manager

Cyndy Comerford is the Climate Program Manager at the San Francisco Department of Environment and is working to advance ambitious and equitable policies to confront the climate crisis. She is responsible for leading a cross-disciplinary, integrated team of climate, green building and environmental justice professionals focused on advancing citywide sustainability, climate, and environmental justice goals. Her recent accomplishments include the development of San Francisco 2021 Climate Action Plan and she spearheaded the city’s ban on natural gas in newly constructed buildings. Previously, Cyndy served as the Deputy Director for Climate Programs for the City of San Jose, CA and led San Jose to be a winner of the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge. Before working in the sustainability field, Cyndy worked for over a decade in public health, advocating for policies and programs designed to ensure that all San Franciscans had the opportunity to live longer and healthier lives. Her efforts led San Francisco to be incorporated into the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit and the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference by the Obama Administration and helped San Francisco to receive two important national distinctions: a winner of the 2016 National Institute of Health’s Climate Change and Environmental Exposures Challenge and a finalist in the 2017 C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards for innovative climate adaptation planning. She holds a master’s degree in resource management and environmental policy and a bachelor's degree in political science and economics.
