Senior Architect
Arizona State University
Alan Roberts is currently a Senior Architect at Arizona State University. He works closely with University leadership and the University Architect on large scale and “high optics” goals for all four campuses at Arizona State University (ASU) as well as two sites; one in Los Angeles, CA and the other in Washington, D.C.
Prior to joining ASU, Alan was the principal of his own firm for 10 years and also worked with other architectural firms in Arizona and Nevada for an additional 10 years. With his tenure at ASU, Alan now has over 26 years of combined experience.
Additionally, Alan serves as a professor of architecture, interior design and landscape architecture as well as being the department chair at Southwest University of Visual Arts for five years. While there, Alan not only taught classes, but also wrote entire curriculums and had a leadership role in, ‘teach the teachers’; a professional development program for instructors.
Alan has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arizona. After his initial 20 years of professional practice, Alan went back to design school and received his Masters of Architecture from the University of Arizona with an emphasis in Sustainable Design focused on water harvesting and water conservation.
Alan regularly leads pre-submittal conferences for design professionals and contractors seeking professional commissions with the University. At these, he makes presentations not only describing the programmatic goals of each project, but carefully outlines the institutional sustainability goals which are very much part of the DNA of the institution. Alan is a USGBC LEED Green Associate and is currently pursuing his LEED BD+C credential. Alan regularly participates in speaking engagements on building sustainability at ASU.
