The sustainable buildings industry is at an important inflection point: the definition of leadership is changing as we expect our buildings and our businesses to address the challenges we face as a society. Investors and building performance policy are driving toward a higher baseline of performance at the same time that climate change and systemic inequality is reinforcing unequal access to quality buildings. After decades of lessons learned from industry, it’s time to seek alignment amidst the signals from the financial and ESG sectors, as well as through public policy.

This panel represents the leaders of the beyond code standards that have driven market transformation in the last decades. Drawing on the lessons learned from their standards and communities, the panelists will discuss the future of leadership: what they are looking for from building stakeholders and one another to make progress, the potential challenges that could delay progress, and common goals and priorities for the future.
